Barclays Corporate Helps Together Trust Develop North West's First State-of-the-Art Special Education College

15th November 2011

Barclays Corporate has agreed term facilities totalling £7.5m to support the construction of a state-of-the-art specialist further education college in Manchester.

The proposed development is a joint venture between the Together Trust, The Manchester College and Manchester City Council, and is due to open in September 2012.  The 28,000 sq ft building will provide specialist teaching and training for students with learning difficulties, disabilities and complex needs.  It will be the first of its kind in the region.

The new campus, adjacent to The Manchester College, will replace Together Trust’s existing Bridge College in Offerton, and will offer speech and language therapy, physiotherapy as well as hydro and occupational therapies. The new location will help foster greater integration for students within the Greater Manchester area.

Together Trust is a Stockport-based charity providing a wide range of social care, special education, community support and consultancy services. It is also a registered domiciliary care agency for children and adults and is one of the largest voluntary providers of residential childcare services from short-term emergency care to long-term placements in England. The financing package was arranged by Andy Ingham, Relationship Director at Barclays Corporate in Manchester.

The Together Trust’s Chief Executive, David Marriott said: “The structure of the facilities provided by Barclays Corporate together with fundraising activity will now enable the College to proceed with this project as a one phase build which means the much needed facility can be completed much more quickly. The move represents an important step for Bridge College and the Together Trust, and moreover, is a radical and positive development for those with special education needs in the region.”

Barclays Corporate’s Andy Ingham commented: “This project forms part of a unique initiative between the Trust, Manchester College and the City Council. The land deal and background agreements have been very complex and the bank has been been proud to play its part in helping make the project a success going forward.”
