10th February 2012

The Association of Building Engineers’ (ABE) South West region has today announced Anthony Burd, Head of Technical Policy, Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) (Building Regulations and Standards Division) as guest speaker at its regional conference and exhibition next month focusing on The Renewable Revolution.
Providing an update into the proposed changes to the Building Regulations, Anthony Burd will be addressing the ABE delegates at the event on Wednesday March 21st, at The Fleet Air Museum in Somerset.
In January the DCLG published its 2012 Consultation on changes to the Building Regulations in England which included proposals on Parts A, B, C, K, L, M, N, P and Regulation 7 and the Building Control System in general.
Colin Bell, president of the ABE, commented: “It’s a great coup for us to secure Anthony as a speaker at our regional event. He will be able to offer delegates an update on the research and work programme and will be discussing how the updates will affect the industry.
“It’s an exciting time for the building industry at the moment as the Government is currently focusing on Housing and Construction in its Red Tape Challenge and inviting comments from industry professionals and members of the public alike as to how the regulations process can be further streamlined and improved.”
Alongside Anthony’s keynote presentation there will be a programme of top-level speakers discussing the theme subject of 'Knowledge is Power - The Renewable Revolution' from Building Control Alliance, Ecofirst, Gale Snowdon Architects, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Zero & Low Carbon Group.
The ABE is the professional membership body for those specialising in the technology of building. It provides the Building Engineer qualification which is recognised across the world, reflecting the professional expertise of its members.
